Brentknoll Veterinary Centre is leading the way in diagnostic imaging in Worcestershire with our onsite 64-slice Toshiba Aquillon CT scanner and onsite diagnostic imager.
Our scanning facilities are available 5 days a week and are a permanent fixture, unlike some visiting mobile units used at other practices.
CT has huge advantages to traditional imaging techniques like X-rays and Ultrasound;
- Superior diagnostic capabilities are due to our helical 64-slice machine. Our CT takes numerous images (or slices) per second and is more comparable to the high-quality machines used in human medicine when compared to 8 or 16-slice CT scanners, which are more common in the veterinary industry.
- The higher number of slices provides higher-resolution images, which allows us to create real-life, 3-D illustrations of animal anatomy. These structures provide fantastic detail, meaning improvements in diagnosis and treatment planning are possible.
- The 64-slice CT scanner gathers more information in less time, therefore exposing our patients to less radiation than the smaller-slice scan machines. Less radiation is, of course, always the safest option.

Case study: CT Scan helped dog owner spot a rare disease 'cholesteatoma'
Sargent was experiencing many ear infections that keep coming back and he was in a lot of discomfort and pain which even affected his jaw. The next option for Sargent was to have a CT scan to diagnose what was going on. Rikki, our Clinical Director, performed a CT, which showed Sargent had a very rare case called cholesteatoma, which meant major surgery with our soft tissue surgeon was needed; some may know it as TECA surgery.

What to expect from a Referral:
After receiving a referral request from the referring vet (either by email, fax or phone), our referral nurse will ensure we have the relevant history, referral letter and client information. We will then contact the client directly to arrange a suitable appointment time.
Referrals begin with a 30-minute appointment to fully examine the patient and discuss treatment plans thoroughly with the pet owner. A detailed Referral report, including findings, results and treatment recommendations, will be sent via email to your Primary Care Provider. The report is then discussed with you via your Primary Care Provider.
If follow-up procedures are required with ourselves, we will advise your Primary Care Provider of this within your pet’s reports. If you would like a copy of the report, this can be requested from us or your primary care provider.
