Sarah Algar – Referrals Nurse (RVN)
I qualified as a registered veterinary nurse (RVN) in 2006 at Hartpury College after spending several years working with Mr Fisher as a trainee nurse.
I originally joined the practice back in 1995 when the practice was based in the old Bath Road, Worcester premises. Along with the other members of staff at the time we made the move up to the current Whittington Road, Worcester location.
Over the years and as my experience increased I became Head Nurse and became involved with Mr Fisher’s cardiology referral appointments. Subsequently this department grew rapidly and as our work load increased, my role diversified to my current title of Senior Referrals Nurse.
My duties include managing Mr Fisher’s referral diary including his operations and procedures lists, arranging appointments for referral clients, liaising with the referring veterinary practices to ensure we have relevant histories and reports, liaising with owners with case updates and supporting Mr Fisher with his referral cases.
I thoroughly enjoy second opinion referral work and it gives me great satisfaction being able to support owners, dealing with complex medical conditions and often very sick animals and making them better to the best of our ability.
In October 2015 I will be facing my next challenge as my husband and I are expecting our first child. Sadly this means I will be taking some time away from the practice as I learn my new role of mum; so my duties will be covered by referrals nurse Hayley Oates.
